DRY EYE TREATMENT

At Oak Bay Optometry, we’re excited to offer improved treatments that relieve uncomfortable dry eye symptoms and help restore homeostasis to the ocular surface

IPL

Intense Pulsed Light is a skin treatment originally used for rosacea that also effectively treats dry eye and Demodex overgrowth.

Specific wavelengths of pulsed light reduce inflammation by constricting abnormal blood vessels that secrete inflammatory mediators and help to melt the meibum.

RF

Radio Frequency provides uniform heat to the subdermal layers of the skin and melts the hardened meibum.

The electromagnetic waves stimulate collagen and elastin production in the treated area which can help tighten skin and remove fine lines.

iLux

iLux treatment unclogs and empties the meibomian glands to encourage improved production and expression of meibum into the tear film.

ZEST

Zocular Eye System Treatment offers deep cleaning of the lid and lash surface to help clear build-up and bacterial biofilm.

This is effective for treating blepharitis and Demodex.

WHAT TO EXPECT

A dry eye disease diagnosis begins with a consultation with one of our optometrists.

Upon their recommendation, you will meet with an ocular hygienist who will help determine the severity of dry eye using diagnostic testing, including imaging of the meibomian glands. Based on these results, your optometrist and ocular hygienist will determine which treatment options will work best for you.

Your ocular hygienist will take this time to discuss treatment packages, pricing, contraindications, steps to prepare for your treatment, at-home care suggestions for in-between and after your treatment, and to set appropriate expectations.

Arrive to your appointment with no eye-makeup.

Expect to be in the clinic for up to an hour, however, the timing of each treatment may vary.

After your treatment, you may experience minor sensitivity and redness but you should be able to return to your everyday routine.

An at-home care routine, as suggested by your optometrist and ocular hygienist, will help keep dry eye symptoms at bay.
