Over the years, we have become increasingly aware of how harmful UVA and UVB rays can be to our skin, but what about our eyes?
UVA and UVB radiation can be especially harmful to your eyes and the skin surrounding them. Excessive exposure can lead to a higher risk of eye diseases (such as cataracts, macular degeneration, and snow blindness), increase the risk of skin cancer, and accelerate aging (yes, wrinkles ladies and gentlemen).
So what can we do to defend against harmful radiation and keep our eyes happy and healthy? (And look fabulous, obviously)
Nowadays, you can find cool sunnies just about anywhere and, while they may look stunning, not all sunglasses are made with the same sun protection.
Unless your sun glass lenses have UVA and UVB 400 protection they could be causing more harm than good. When the eye is shaded behind a tinted lens, the pupil becomes dilated therefore allowing more light and UV rays to hit the pupil.
Since we’re exposed to UV radiation 365 days a year, it is important to invest in the highest quality protection for our eyes. For the best defense against harmful UV rays, look for sunglasses with UV 400 or higher. This means 99.9% of harmful UVA and UVB rays are blocked.
